Horizon League Baseball Championship Page
The field is set for the 2005 Horizon League Baseball Championship, which will begin this Wednesday, May 25, at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis.
Regular-season champion University of Illinois at Chicago (35-18-1, 14-6 Horizon League) enters the championship as the No. 1 seed for the fourth straight year and is aiming for its second tournament title in three years. The Flames, who are riding a five-game winning streak, have been idle since blanking the University of Toledo 3-0 May 17.
Defending tournament champion Youngstown State University (28-25, 10-6) moved into second place ahead of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (22-29, 12-8) by winning three of four games from the Panthers this past weekend. Both the second-seed Penguins and top-seed Flames will receive byes to Thursday's second round.
The tournament's opening game on Wednesday will feature fourth-seed Wright State University (24-31, 11-9) and fifth-seed Cleveland State University (13-34, 5-15) at 11 a.m. Indianapolis local time. Following the opener, third-seed UW-Milwaukee will face sixth-seed and host Butler University (19-33, 4-12) at 3 p.m.
On Thursday, the two losing teams from Wednesday will square off in the day's first game at 11 a.m. Youngstown State then will meet the higher seed of Wednesday's winners at 3 p.m., followed by UIC versus the lower seed of the two winners at 7 p.m.
The action continues Friday with games at 11 a.m. and 3 and 7 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. If a second championship game is needed, it will be played Sunday at noon.
Single-day tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for senior citizens and youth. All-tournament passes are $20 and $12, respectively.
