Butler 70, UW-Green Bay 47
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Avery Sheets hit six of Butler's 14 3-pointers and scored 20 points as the visiting Bulldogs blew out UW-Green Bay 70-47 Monday night.
The loss dropped Green Bay (14-6, 7-3 Horizon League) a full game behind 8-2 UW-Milwaukee in the conference race.
Butler (8-11, 3-6) won on the road for just the second time all season.
Butler began the game with a 20-2 run that included four 3-pointers, and the Bulldogs never stopped firing from long range.
Bruce Horan added four 3-pointers for 12 points and A.J. Graves had three 3-pointers on his way to 13 points.
Sheets finished 6-of-9 on 3-pointers and Butler was 14-of-32 as a team, with several of the long-range shots coming from several feet behind the arc.
Javier Mendiburu scored 15 points and Benito Flores 14 for Green Bay, which missed an opportunity to pull into a first-place tie with Milwaukee after beating the Panthers two nights earlier.
Brandon Morris, who scored 18 points against Milwaukee, took just three shots and did not score. Green Bay attempted just 35 shots and got only two offensive rebounds.
After Butler's 20-2 start, Green Bay got consecutive 3-pointers from Flores in a 13-0 run, but two 3-pointers late in the first half by Sheets pushed Butler's lead back to double digits.
Consecutive 3-pointers by Horan, Sheets and Gary Patterson stretched the lead to 21 points with 14 minutes left. Green Bay got as close as 52-39 but did not make a field goal in the game's final nine minutes.
