Player of the Week Release in PDF Format
INDIANAPOLIS - Butler University senior center Lade Akande has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 1-7. It is Akande's fifth career weekly honor from the Horizon League office.
Akande, a native of Robinson, Ill., recorded a pair of double-doubles to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week. Akande averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the two victories.
The 6-foot-2 center scored 10 points and collected 11 rebounds to lead BU to a 70-52 win at Evansville on Wednesday. She followed that effort with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 78-48 rout of Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
Akande's scoring output boosted her career scoring total to 1,452 points, moving her into fourth on Butler's all-time scoring list. Her points total is also tied for 16th in Horizon League history, six points shy of 14th on the League's all-time chart.
For the season, Akande ranks 10th in the Horizon League with 13.1 points and fourth with 7.3 rebounds per game. She is shooting 50.6 percent from the floor.
Akande and the Bulldogs play twice this week, traveling to Indiana Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET and Miami (Ohio) Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
