Butler's Bayliss, UIC's Cristescu Take Home Horizon League Tennis Athlete of the Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler senior Brandon Bayliss (Sheboygan, Wis.) has earned Horizon League Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, while UIC senior Ilinca Cristescu (Bensenville, Ill.) has received Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.

Playing at No. 1 singles for the Bulldogs, Bayliss went 2-3 with his only loss to Kentucky last week. He went 2-0 in No. 2 doubles with senior Lenz Theodor defeating Mercer 8-2 and Detroit 8-6. In singles competition he won against Mercer before falling to Kentucky. Following his loss he came back and defeated Detroit. Bayliss has won four of the last five matches in both singles and doubles play.

Cristescu led the Flames last week staying undefeated in Horizon League singles play throughout her career. Against Illinois State she defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1 while winning 6-1,6-1 against League opponents Milwaukee and Green Bay.

In doubles play Cristescu partnered with Jana Knoppe and defeated Illinois State 8-6, Milwaukee 8-1 and Green Bay 8-2.

Butler will take this weekend off before returning to action April 2 traveling to Green Bay to take on the Phoenix. UIC will return to action on Sunday traveling to Detroit with a start time of 10:00am(EST).
