INDIANAPOLIS – Butler senior Kris Gauson (Edinburgh, Scotland) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Runner of the Week, while Youngstown State freshman Darius Reeves (Uniontown, Pa.) has earned Horizon League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, for the week beginning Dec. 6.
Competing at the Eastern Illinois Early Bird, Gauson recorded Butler’s lone victory of the meet, winning the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:21.57, besting 12 other competitors.
Making his debut for the Penguins, Reeves launched the second-best triple jump in Youngstown State history, clearing 14.15 meters to finish fourth in a field of 27 at the Golden Flash Gala.
The freshman added his name in the YSU indoor track record books in the 60-meter hurdles, posting the third-fastest time in school history after crossing the line in 8.44 seconds.
Both squads will return to the track after the new year on Saturday, Jan. 15. Butler will compete at the Illini Challenge in Urbana, Ill., while Youngstown State will participate in the Doug Raymond Invitational in Kent, Ohio.
