INDIANAPOLIS – Butler University junior defenseman Matt Hedges (Carmel, Ind.) and Loyola sophomore forward Eric Nock (Cincinnati, Ohio) have been named Horizon League Men’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week, for the week beginning Sept. 20.
Hedges tallied game-winning goals in each of Butler’s two Horizon League wins over the weekend, while Nock posted a hat trick on Sunday, helping Loyola go 2-0 on the week.
Taking their undefeated record to Green Bay on Friday night, Hedges picked up Butler’s second goal of the contest, which proved to be the game-winner when the Phoenix struck later in the match. The junior was part of a defensive effort that saw the Bulldogs limit Green Bay to just two shots in the 2-1 victory.
At Milwaukee, Hedges struck Butler’s first goal in a 2-0 win on Sunday; it was the Carmel, Ind.-native’s fourth goal of the year and his third game-winner of the season.
With a 7-0-0 record, Butler sits at No. 6 in the Goal.com college soccer poll and entered last week at No. 17 in the National Soccer Coaches Assocation of America (NSCAA)/HenrickCars.com poll.
Nock helped Loyola finish as the only other unbeaten team on the weekend, as the Ramblers knocked off Detroit, 1-0, on Friday before Nock’s monster game on Sunday.
In their 3-0 win over Cleveland State, Nock posted his first career hat trick, notching all three Loyola goals in the match. Nock posted his hat trick in the second half, scoring at the 47th, 63rd and 86th minutes of the contest.
On the year, Nock leads the Ramblers with four goals, eight points and 17 shots. The six-point outburst on Sunday matched the highest single-game points total in the Horizon League in 2010.
No. 17 Butler hosts Valparaiso in a key Horizon League match on Friday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. ET, while Loyola hits the road for their lone match of the week, a 7 p.m. ET conference tilt at Wright State.
