INDIANAPOLIS – Butler sophomore Kirsty Legg (Middlesborough, England) has been named the Horizon League Women’s Track and Field Runner of the Week, while Wright State senior Heather Parrish (Burlington, N.C.) has been selected the League’s Field Athlete of the Week, for the week beginning Jan. 24.
Running the 800 meters and 1 mile at the Indiana Relays, Legg broke her own school record in the indoor mile, while finishing runner-up, posting a time of 4:41.59. The time is the best in the League by nearly five seconds and shattered Legg’s previous school mark of 4:44.49 set last year.
Currently ranked No. 3 in the NCAA in the mile, Legg also competed in the 800 meters, taking second place in 2:11.31; the mark is the tops in the Horizon League with three weekends remaining until the League championships.
Also competing at the Indiana Relays, Parrish lept 5.82 meters in the long jump, putting herself atop the Wright State record book. The jump ranks as the second in the League this season. Parrish’s leap of 19’1 1/4” bested the 33 competitors at the meet.
Butler and Wright State are both in action this weekend, each heading to South Bend, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 4-5.
