Cleveland State Headed to Washington for NCAA Regionals; Oakland's Bowser to Indiana Regional

Horizon League men's golf champion Cleveland State learned its NCAA destination on Monday as the Vikings were sent to Bremerton, Wash., for NCAA Regional play. Horizon League individual champion Evan Bowser of Oakland will begin play in the the NCAA at Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind.

The selections were announced on Monday morning on The Golf Channel's Morning Drive.

Play at the Gold Mountain G.C. in Bremerton, Wash., begins on May 14 and runs through May 16. Gold Mountain G.C. is a par-72, 7,168-yard course near Seattle.

his will be CSU's sixth appearance at the NCAA Regionals in the last 10 years after the Vikings won the Horizon League Championship last week in Florida by 10 shots over Oakland. CSU also played in the NCAA regionals in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2014.

The Vikings are the 13th seed in the region that includes top-seeded South Carolina and second-seeded and host Washington. USC is the third seed and is followed by Baylor, UAB, TCU, Iowa State, Sam Houston State, Michigan, California-Davis, VCU, Pepperdine, CSU and South Dakota.

Senior Michael Balcar, who earned first team All-Horizon League honors for the third straight year, leads the team with a 72.9 scoring average. He was tied for the lead at the league championship after 54 holes before falling in the first playoff hole.

Junior Mitchell Moore joined Balcar on the all-tournament team after finishing fourth at the league championship. He is posting a 75.8 scoring average this year. Junior Paul Minko (75.7), sophomore Pat Luth (75.8) and freshman Joey Krecic (75.6) rounded out CSU's lineup at the league championship.

Bowser, a native of Dearborn, Mich., earned a spot in the regional after winning the Horizon League Championship on April 26. He finished the tournament tied with Cleveland State's Michael Balcar with a 4-over-par 220 and won the second playoff hole to earn the regional selection. He is just the fourth player in program history to win the conference tournament and the first since PGA Tour professional Brian Stuard in 2005. He also broke Stuard's school record for career rounds under par with 22 in the second round of the league championship.
