INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State University senior Jakub Dobies has been named the Horizon League Men’s Swimmer of the Week while sophomore teammate Josh Gonzalez earned Men’s Diver of the Week accolades for the period of Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
Dobies racked up two first-place medals this past Saturday in a tri-meet at Notre Dame and against Miami (Ohio). The 2008-09 All-American touched the wall first in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke races timing in at 57.06 and 2:05.88, respectively. The Plock, Poland, native garnered a third-place showing in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.41. Dobies also took part in the second-place 200 medley relay squad that finished in 1:34.03.
Dobies is the first student-athlete in Horizon League history to take part in the NCAA Championships since the conference adopted its name in 2001 and last year claimed All-American honors with a 13th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
Gonzalez competed as the lone Viking diver in the one- and three-meter competitions at Notre Dame on Saturday. The Brunswick, Ohio, native recorded scores of 254.30 and 257.00 from the one- and three-meter heights, respectively.
Gonzalez earns his first Diver-of-the-Week award while Dobies is honored with his second career accolade.
Cleveland State resumes action on Friday as the Vikings travel to Youngstown State University in a quad-meet with Canisius College and Malone University.
