INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State senior Rob Fox (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) has earned Horizon League Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, while Cleveland State junior Catrine Bjerrehus (Aarhus, Denmark) has received Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.
For each player, the accolade is their second of the season. The duo each earned the honor on Feb. 8.
In its lone match last week, Fox led the Vikings to a narrow 4-3 win over host Green Bay. The senior was instrumental in helping Cleveland State rally after dropping the doubles point, collecting a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
The win was Fox’s 91st career singles triumph, the second-most in Cleveland State history. The victory was the 27th consecutive League win for the Vikings.
Bjerrehus was undefeated on the week, going 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 2 doubles as Cleveland State collected wins at Green Bay and at Milwaukee, both by 7-0 scores.
After winning in a tiebreak in her opening set on Saturday versus Green Bay, Bjerrehus went to win her next three sets by identical 6-1 scores. Against the Phoenix, Bjerrehus teamed with Maria Lazaris for an 8-3 win; a day later, the duo won, 8-6, against Milwaukee.
The Cleveland State men host Valparaiso and UIC on April 2 and 3, respectively. The match versus the Crusaders starts at 2 p.m. ET, with the Sunday contest against the Flames beginning at 3 p.m. ET. The Viking women take on Valpo at 10 a.m. ET on April 2 and welcome the Flames at 11 a.m. ET on April 3.
