Cleveland State improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 2-1 victory over Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon at Krenzler Field.
The Vikings are 2-0 for just the second time in program history and the first since 2010.
CSU, who defeated Canisius on Friday night, opened the scoring early for the second straight game when Frederike Dubeau headed in a corner kick from Amanda Sivic just 6:29 into the contest.
The Vikings held the lead until late in the first half when the Falcons tied the match at 1-1 on a Haley Malaczewski goal with just under four minutes left in the half.
Brittany Koester tallied what turned out to be the game-winning goal for CSU at the 61:51 mark when she one-timed a pass from Shea Levi past the Falcon goalkeeper. Levi had taken control of the ball on the end line to the right of the goal, playing a pass into the box where Koester knocked it in.
CSU had several other scoring chances this afternoon, including three shots that hit the post.
The Vikings outshot Bowling Green, 18-10.
Detroit 2, Central Michigan 2
University of Detroit Mercy freshman Anna Mindling recorded her first two collegiate goals to help lead the Titans women's soccer team to a 2-2 tie with Central Michigan University on Sunday at the CMU Soccer Complex.
Mindling put Detroit on the scoreboard first as she netted her first career goal 10 minutes into the match after she found a loose ball free in the crease. The Titans would then carry that 1-0 lead with them to the locker room.
CMU would tie the score 1-1 eight minutes into the second half, and the score would remain tied until Mindling scored her second of the day with 9:32 remaining in regulation. The Chippewas would then tie the score again, a minute later, to force overtime.
Both teams had a couple of opportunities in both the first and second overtime session, but neither could find the net, resulting in a tie.
Wright State 1, Ohio 1
The women's soccer team led 1-0 in the second half, only to see Ohio scored a goal midway through the period to force a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon in Athens.
Emilie Fillion gave the Raiders a 1-0 advantage at the 36:11 mark of the first half as she connected on a 25-yard shot past the Bobcat goalkeeper. It was the second goal of the season for the senior forward while junior defender Allie Metzler was credited with the assist, her first of the year.
Ohio, however, tied the contest with a goal at the 66:56 mark of the second half and the game ended deadlocked at 1-1.
The Bobcats (0-1-1) led 17-11 in shots, 8-4 in shots on goal and 12-6 in corner kicks. Wright State senior goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy finished with seven saves.
Ball State 3, Green Bay 0
Two goals in a span of two minutes during the second half proved to be too much for the Green Bay women’s soccer team to overcome as it fell to Ball State, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex in Muncie.
With the loss, the Phoenix dropped to 0-1-1 on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 2-0-0.
Canisius 1, Youngstown State 0
The Youngstown State soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Canisius on Sunday afternoon.
The Penguins fall to 1-1 while the Golden Griffins improve to 1-1.
Just 17 minutes into the game, Canisius' Kelly McMahon scored from 20 yards out on a free kick.
Junior Jackie Podolsky recorded six saves in the loss.
Miami (Ohio) 1, Valparaiso 0
Taking on a Miami (Ohio) side which is receiving votes in the national polling, it looked like Valparaiso would play into overtime with the RedHawks on Sunday afternoon at Brown Field before an 87th minute penalty kick proved to be the decisive moment in a 1-0 defeat.
The RedHawks would find their goal from the penalty spot just over three minutes before time. A push forward resulted in a Crusader defender taking down a Miami attacker in the box, and the referee called for the foul and pointed to the spot. Kelsey Dinges stepped up for Miami and placed the penalty kick inside the right-hand post for the game's lone goal. Valpo had a quality chance in the final minute of play, as a cross from the left found Robin Wenzel alone at the edge of the box, but by the time Wenzel corraled the ball, a RedHawk defender had recovered and stepped in front of her effort to block it away.
#19 Michigan 6, Oakland 1
Meghan Reynolds scored her second goal of the season in Oakland's young 2013 season, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Grizzlies dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 19 Michigan at U-M Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.
With the setback, Oakland drops to 1-1-0 on the year.
Both teams battled close in the game's opening 30 minutes, but Michigan (2-0-0) scored four goals over the final 13 minutes of the opening stanza. The Wolverines then tallied early in the second half to take a 5-0 lead.
Reynolds scored in the game's 76th minute when she bested Michigan's goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation for her second strike in as many outings.
Michigan State 5, Milwaukee 2
Freshmen Maria Stephans and Taylor Swittel both recorded their first collegiate goals, but it wasn't enough as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee fell to Michigan State 5-2 Sunday afternoon at DeMartin Stadium.
Milwaukee (0-2-0) used 19 players in the game, including seven freshmen. The five goals are the most the Panthers have conceded since a 5-1 loss to Oakland in 2001.
Michigan State moves to 2-0-0 on the year.
Milwaukee got its first goal of the season after Morgan LaPlant was taken down in the box in the 74th minute. Stephans stepped up to take the penalty kick and calmly slotted it into the side corner to put Milwaukee on the board.
Five minutes later, Milwaukee struck again. Callie O'Donnell slotted a through ball from the center to a streaking Swittel coming in from the right. The freshman collected the ball behind the defense and curved it right around the oncoming Spartan keeper for her first collegiate goal.
