INDIANAPOLIS—Oakland’s Aleksander Danielewski (Piaseczno, Poland) and Youngstown State’s Madison Aranda (Missouri City, Texas) have been named Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week while Milwaukee’s K.J. Heger (Rockford, Ill.) and Rachel Margis (Racine, Wis.) have been named Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Divers of the Week for the week of Oct. 21-27. This is the third-straight week that Heger has collected the award and Danielewski’s second honor this season.
Danielewski and the Oakland men’s swimming and diving team competed at Northwestern this past weekend in dual meets against the Wildcats and UIC. Danielewski led the way for the Golden Grizzlies, collecting three wins at the meet. The sophomore won the 100 backstroke in a time of 49.76 and remained unbeaten for the year in the 200 backstroke finishing with a time of 1:50.12. Danielewski also took the top of the podium in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.26. To cap off his weekend efforts, he was a member of the 200 medley relay team that placed second.
Youngstown State hit the water on the road at Cleveland State in a double dual against the Vikings and Valparaiso. Aranda swept her four events, collecting three individual victories in the meet. The freshman broke a 10-year-old school record in the 400 individual medley by .81 seconds and finished with a time of 4:33.01. In addition to her record-breaking performance, Aranda posted the second-fastest time in school history in the 200 butterfly finishing with a time of 2:06.75. Her third individual victory came in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.45 and she was also a member of winning 400 medley relay squad.
Milwaukee competed at the Wisconsin College Championships and swept both the men’s and women’s diving events. Heger continued to dominate on the men’s side, winning the one-meter and three-meter events for the third-straight week to start the season. The senior posted a score of 328.05 to get top nods on the one-meter board and defeated 13 fellow divers in the three-meter with a score of 367.55. Heger’s scores on the one-meter and three-meter boards were NCAA Zone qualifying marks, respectively.
Margis led Milwaukee’s women’s diving team at the meet, sweeping both boards for the second-straight week. The junior tallied 291.20 points to win the one-meter against 20 competitors and claimed the top prize in the three-meter with a score of 287.40. Margis recorded NCAA Zone qualifying marks on both boards at the meet.
All three teams are back in action with Milwaukee facing Wright State in a dual meet and Youngstown State competing against Ohio University’s and Oakland’s women’s squads on Friday, October 31st. The Golden Grizzlies men’s and women’s teams then take on Wayne State in a dual meet on Saturday.
