INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler University senior Dana Daprile and Valparaiso University senior Brittany Malicoat have been named Horizon League Volleyball Players of the Week for the period of Oct. 20-26.
A native of Bargersville, Ind., Daprile earns Offensive Player of the Week honors after helping Butler to a 3-2 victory over Green Bay (25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-10) on Friday and 3-1 win over league-leading Milwaukee (25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18) on Saturday.
Daprile ranked second in the Horizon League in assists per set (11.22) and fourth in hitting percentage (.375) last week. The setter recorded Butler's first triple double of the season (52 asts, 19 digs, 12 kills) against the Phoenix and her fourth double double (49 asts, 14 digs) of the campaign vs. the Panthers.
Daprile also became just the fifth player in Butler history to surpass the 3,000-assist plateau with her second helper on Saturday. She places third in the conference with 9.21 assists per set this season.
The Bulldogs, 17-6 overall and 7-4 in league play, have now won six of their last nine matches.
A native of Elkhart, Ind., Malicoat earns Defensive Player of the Week accolades after helping Valparaiso to wins over IUPUI (25-18, 25-21, 25-13) on Tuesday, Milwaukee (22-25, 26-24, 25-10, 25-21) on Friday and Green Bay (25-18, 25-23, 25-14) on Saturday.
Malicoat ranked second in the Horizon League in digs per set (6.40) last week. The libero tallied 19 digs against the Jaguars, 18 digs vs. the Panthers and 27 digs against the Phoenix.
Malicoat, who is Valparaiso's all-time digs leader (2,151), has now recorded 10+ digs in 73 consecutive matches -- the second-longest active streak in the country. Malicoat places second in the conference with 5.45 digs per set this season.
The Crusaders, 16-6 overall and 7-4 in league play, have now won nine of their last 10 matches.
Butler travels to Cleveland State on Friday (7 p.m. ET) and Youngstown State on Saturday (4 p.m.). Valparaiso visits the Penguins on Friday (7 p.m.) and Vikings on Saturday (4 p.m.).
