INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State and Detroit took road victories on Tuesday night, while Wright State, Loyola and Green Bay came up short.
Detroit 2, Bowling Green 0
Detroit continued its winning ways on Tuesday, knocking off Bowling Green, 2-0, at Cochrane Field.
Detroit (4-4-0) picked up its second straight win and third in four matches in defeating the Falcons, getting five saves from Nathan Steinwascher as he posted his second shutout of the season.
The Titans opened the scoring in the 17th minute, when Patrick Soltys collected his first goal of the year off a Kevin Pinkos corner kick.
Adam Bedell would collect his fifth goal in as many matches to seal the result in the 86th minute. Matt Ybarra notched the assist.
Cleveland State 2, Duquesne 0
Playing a man up for the entire second half, Cleveland State capitalized with two goals in the final 13 minutes to down Duquesne, 2-0.
Cleveland State (4-3-0) gained the advantage in the 33rd minute, when a Duquesne player was assessed a red card. The Vikings took advantage playing at full strength, as Christian Arboleda played a ball to Aaron Adkins, whose shot went across the goal from right to left to give CSU the lead.
With Duquesne pressing up for the game-tying goal, Cleveland State was able to clinch the result as Zach Ellis-Hayden finished for his second goal of the year. Off a set piece, Tommy Fitzgerald sent in a ball, where Ellis-Hayden’s goal at 86:30 sealed the match.
Brad Stuver made seven saves for the Vikings to post his Horizon League-leading third shutout of the year.
Western Michigan 2, Wright State 1 (2OT)
Leading by a goal, Wright State saw a late lead slip away before falling shortly into double overtime to Western Michigan, 2-1, at Alumni Field.
Wright State (2-6-0) took a 1-0 advantage late in the first half, with Brett Elder converting a feed from Finlay Milne at the 42:48 mark of the half.
Halfway through the second half, Wright State would see Western Michigan score the equalizing goal. The teams would play a scoreless first overtime before Kyle Farris would split the defense 55 seconds into the second overtime to net the game-winner for the Broncos.
Eastern Illinois 2, Loyola 0
Eastern Illinois netted goals in both halves to hold off a feisty Loyola attack, 2-0, in Charleston, Ill.
Loyola (1-5-0) would allow the game-winning goal 5:33 into the match, as Tayron Martin was able to chip a ball over Peter McKeown’s outstretched glove.
Martin would strike again in the 65th minute, shooting to the right corner to best Tim Dobrowloski, who entered at goal in the second half.
Loyola finished the evening with 14 shots and six corner kicks.
SIU Edwardsville 3, Green Bay 0
SIU Edwardsville outshot Green Bay, 15-7, en route to a 3-0 victory over the host Phoenix at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
Green Bay (2-4-1) dropped its third match in four outings, as a goal shortage has hampered the Phoenix. Over its last four matches, the Phoenix have scored two goals.
SIUE would get the match-winner in the 22nd minute, when Peter Kelly converted on a Christian Volesky pass. Just 29 seconds later, Volesky would find the back of the net, with Kelly assisting. Volesky added a second goal in the 74th minute.
Ryan Wehking made five saves for Green Bay in the defeat, while Sam Krenzien and Whitney Browne led the team with two shots each.
