Brigid Mulroy’s career as a Detroit Titan has ended, but that doesn’t mean she is done playing basketball. The 2010 State Farm College Three-Point Champion has agreed to travel overseas to play for Wasserburg. Mulroy will depart for Germany in September to join her new team. The season will begin in October.
"I’m very excited that I get to continue my basketball career,” Mulroy said. "I wanted to continue playing, and they [Wasserburg] are giving me that opportunity.”
Mulroy jumped into the professional ranks by signing a contract with Wasserburg, a team in the DBBL (Damen Basketball Bundesliga League). Her ability to knock down shots from the perimeter should be a valuable asset to her new team. While at Detroit, Mulroy led the nation in three-point field goal percentage (.505). She was the first women’s basketball player in the program’s history to lead the NCAA in a statistical category. She also received the President’s Award as the University’s most outstanding senior female student-athlete.
"Brigid Mulroy is apparently riding the ferris wheel until they kick her off,” said head coach Autumn Rademacher. "From walk-on to starter to now most commonly referred to as the 2010 nation’s best three-point shooter, I could not be more excited for Brigid to continue her playing career overseas. There is no question she will enhance her team’s organization with her ability to shoot the ball."
As stated by Rademacher, Mulroy came to UDM as a walk-on and quickly began to flourish. During her first two seasons as a Titan, Mulroy played in almost every game as a reserve. Mulroy’s solid play allowed her to start in every game a year later as a junior. Finally in her senior season Mulroy became a star, and was therefore named as a first-team All-Horizon League selection.
Mulroy averaged a team-best 13.9 points per game as a senior. She ended her career sixth in the Detroit record book by making 160 three-pointers during her four college seasons. Mulroy knocked down 92 three-pointers during her senior season, a tie for the sixth most in the country. She capped off her collegiate career by winning the 22nd Annual State Farm College Three-Point Shooting Championship for women during the men’s Final Four in Indianapolis.
