INDIANAPOLIS -- Detroit junior midfielder Adam Bedell (Livonia, Mich.) is the Horizon League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Titans sophomore goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher (Sterling Heights, Mich.) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 17-23. For Bedell, he becomes the first player in League history to earn three consecutive Player of the Week awards.
Detroit (5-4-0, 2-0-0 Horizon) pushed its winning streak to three, collecting a 2-0 non-conference victory over Bowling Green before knocking off Cleveland State, 3-1, to remain atop the Horizon League standings.
Bedell extended his scoring streak to six matches, putting home three goals in the two matches. Against Bowling Green, Bedell had the insurance marker in the 86th minute; versus Cleveland State, the junior finished off a 2-on-1 break for the Titans’ second goal of the match before a header off a corner sealed the result in the 53rd minute.
With seven goals and 16 points, Bedell leads the Horizon League in both categories. Detroit’s five wins match its total from last season, while its six points in League play already best last season’s total.
Steinwascher made six saves across the two matches, recording five in Detroit’s victory at Bowling Green. The shutout was the second of the year for the sophomore, who leads the Horizon League with 41 saves. The lone goal against Steinwascher on the week came on a penalty kick in the 90th minute versus Cleveland State.
Detroit will be off this week, returning to non-conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 3, when it hosts Oakland at Titan Field. The match will begin at 3 p.m. ET.
