INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit sophomore midfielder Jennifer Borawski (Northville, Mich.) is the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Valparaiso senior goalkeeper Kristen Manski (Saint Charles, Ill.) has been named Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 14-20.
Detroit (8-7-1, 2-3-0) split the week with a victory against Wright State but fell over the weekend to Oakland 2-0. The Titans are 6-0 at home this year, outscoring opponents 20-0.
Borawski recorded her first multi-goal match of her career, netting two goals past Wright State’s goalkeeper. Her first goal came in the 41st minute assisted by teammate Carley Rice and second in the 55th minute off of a nice passing play.
Valparaiso (8-5-2, 2-2-1) earned its first road win of the season with two goals early in the second half against Youngstown State. The Crusaders picked up three key Horizon League points in the matchup.
Manski earned her second straight shutout, boosting her league-best to eight on the season. With four saves in the match, the shutout also marked the 30th of her career. In addition, Manski tallied an assist on the second goal of the game for her first career point.
Detroit hosts Valparaiso on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Titan Field, Detroit’s three seniors will be honored prior to the game.
Top Offensive Performers for the Week:
Rita Craven, Valparaiso (So., M)—Match-winning goal in the 48th minute against Youngstown State and had primary assist on insurance goal in 57th minute.
Meghan Reynolds, Oakland (Sr., F)—Scored her sixth goal of the season on a game-winning penalty kick. Led the team with five shots and two shots on goal in the match and helped Oakland move into a tie for second in the Horizon League.
Amanda Sivic, Cleveland State (Jr., F)—Scored game-winning goal in the 82nd minute in the 1-0 win at Green Bay. The goal marked her fifth of the season, second best on the team.
Top Defensive Performers for the Week:
Martha Dunbar, Detroit (So., GK)—Recorded her fifth shutout of the year while making eight saves over Wright State. Added three saves in Oakland loss with one of the goals a penalty kick.
Payj O’Shea, Oakland (Sr., GK)—Kept a clean sheet for the third consecutive Horizon League game against cross-town rival Detroit. Made three saves in the win to help Oakland move up into a tie for second in the Horizon League standings with nine points.
Sarah Wood, Cleveland State (So., GK)—Made five saves in a 1-0 loss to Youngstown State and posted fifth shutout of season with seven saves in 1-0 win at Green Bay. Raised total saves to 102 this season.
