INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit senior Sequoyia Calhoun (Belleville, Mich.) has been named the Horizon League Women’s Runner of the Week, while Valparaiso freshman Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill.) has earned Horizon League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, for the week beginning Nov. 29.
Opening the season at the Blue and Gold Invitational on Dec. 3, Calhoun set an indoor personal best in the 200 meters, crossing the line in 26.28, resulting in a sixth-place finish.
The senior took third in the 400 meters, recording a time of 58.57; Calhoun concluded the meet by helping Detroit capture fourth in the 4x400m relay, as the Titans set a December record with a time of 4:03.84.
In her first collegiate meet, the Early Bird Open on Dec. 4, Drozdowski jumped into the Valparaiso record book, recording a distance of 15.26 meters (50’0 3/4”) in the weight throw. The mark was the second-best in Crusaders history and gave Drzodowski a sixth-place finish.
The Roselle, Ill.-native added an 11th-place result in the shot put, clearing 11.36 meters (37’3 1/4”) with her toss.
Detroit returns to the track on Friday, Dec. 10, taking part in the Macomb Opener in Warren, Mich. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. ET. Valparaiso will be off through the holiday season, returning to competition on Friday, Jan. 14, in the Bob Eubanks Open, which be held in Allendale, Mich.
