INDIANAPOLIS -- Detroit senior Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) has picked up his second non-consecutive Horizon League Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award while Milwaukee senior Samia Taylor (Madison, Wis.) earned repeat honors.
Patterson was also honored Dec. 5 and Taylor also won last week.
Competing at the Jack Harvey Invitational, Patterson placed first in the long jump with a 6.88-meter leap, outdistancing a field of 11. Patterson also earned second place out of nine jumpers in the triple jump with a distance of 13.72 meters.
Patterson and the Titans return to action on Jan. 26 at the IPFW Quadrangular in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Taylor competed with the Panthers at the Iowa State Open across Jan. 18 and 19. She swept the long jump and triple jump for the second straight meet, and did so in convincing fashion.
In the long jump, Taylor posted a 5.65-meter jump to outdistance 30 competitors and beat the second-place finisher by nearly two-tenths of a meter. She posted a 12.49-meter distance in the triple jump, besting a field of 18, with her closest competitor more than half a meter behind.
