Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Ya Ya Toure
Junior, Forward
Ypsilanti, Mich.
INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit junior forward Ya Ya Toure (Ypsilanti, Mich.) has been named Horizon League Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, for the week beginning Oct. 11.
Toure recorded goals in both of Detroit’s matches this week, helping the Titans go 1-0-1 after a 2-0 victory over Cleveland State and a 3-3 tie against IPFW.
In a key Horizon League match versus Cleveland State, Toure struck what proved to be the decisive goal, stealing a ball headed to the goalkeeper and placing the ball in the lower left corner for his sixth goal of the season.
Against IPFW on Sunday, Toure found the back of the net just 29 seconds into the match, heading a cross past the Mastodon keeper to give the Titans an early lead.
Toure’s seven goals and 16 points lead the Titans, who sit in second place in the Horizon League with a 4-2-0 league mark with two conference matches remaining among Detroit’s four.
The Titans will be off this week before traveling to Buffalo, N.Y., for a midweek non-conference match at Buffalo on Tues., Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m., before hosting Butler on Sat., Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. ET.
