INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior Traci Edwards has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 5-11. The selection marks Edwards' ninth career weekly honor from the League office and her second this season.
Edwards became the Horizon League's all-time leading scorer last week (2,023 points) and the first woman in school, League or state history to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.
Edwards collected 23 points and 10 rebounds -- for her 50th career double-double -- on Saturday at Cleveland State University. The performance came after registering 21 points and eight boards on Thursday at Youngstown State University.
The Horizon League's Preseason Player of the Year averaged a conference-best 22 points in addition to nine rebounds over two games last week. The post player made 15-of-26 (.577) from the field and 11-of-14 (.786) from the free-throw line.
Her efforts helped Milwaukee (6-8 overall, 1-2 HL) split a pair of affairs last week. The Panthers posted a 72-60 win over Youngstown State, but suffered a 54-49 loss to Cleveland State.
Edwards ranks among the Horizon League leaders in five statistical categories through 14 games this season. She is first in scoring (19.2 ppg), second in rebounding (8.4 rpg), second in field-goal percentage (.570), sixth in free-throw percentage (.791) and seventh in blocked shots (0.8).
Milwaukee hosts Wright State University at U.S. Cellular Arena on Thursday (6:30 p.m. ET) and the University of Detroit Mercy at the Klotsche Center on Saturday (3 p.m.).
