Felder Named to NABC All-America Third Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Oakland men's basketball junior guard Kay Felder has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coaches' Division I All-America Third Team, announced the organization on Monday. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I, these student-athletes selected to the Coaches' All-America teams represent the finest basketball players across America.

Felder, a junior guard from Detroit, Mich., is the first Oakland player in program history to earn NABC All-America honors. Last week, he was named to the NABC Division I All-District 12 first team for the second consecutive season. The Horizon League Player of the Year leads the country with 9.3 assists per game and also ranks fourth in scoring at 24.2 points per contest. He is a finalist for both the John R. Wooden Award and the Bob Cousy Award and was already named to the Sporting News All-America Third Team earlier this season. Felder has recorded 17 double-doubles this season, including 12 games of at least 20 points and 10 assists. He is looking to be the 1st player since Steph Curry (2008-09) to average over 34.0 points-plus-assists per game. He is looking to become just the fifth player in the last 20 years to average 23 points and six assists and vying to be the first player since 1995-96 to average 25 points and 8 assists.

Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.
