The 2013-14 Horizon League Women’s Basketball Tournament field is set as the regular season came to a close on Saturday.
The Green Bay Phoenix came out of the regular season as champions of the Horizon League for the 16th consecutive season and will be the top-seed in the tournament. Green Bay won at Saturday to improve to 13-3 in the League and capture the regular season title outright.
The tournament begins on Monday, March 10 with a first round game featuring ninth-seed Valparaiso (5-24, 3-13) playing at eighth-seed Detroit (6-23, 3-13).
The top seven seeds in the tournament get a bye into the second round that begins on Wednesday, March 12.
Green Bay (20-8, 13-3) will play its first game on March 12 against the winner of the Valparaiso and Detroit game. If the Phoenix win their second round matchup they will host the semifinals and finals in the Kress Center.
If the Phoenix fall to the Crusaders or Titans, the highest remaining seed left in the tournament after the second round will be the host for the final two rounds.
Wright State (23-8, 12-4) is the second seed in the championship and will open the tournament by hosting seventh-seed Milwaukee (8-21, 4-12) on Wednesday night. The Raiders won both of the regular season meetings between the two teams.
Youngstown State (14-15, 10-6) is the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Oakland (13-16, 8-8) in the third game on Wednesday. The Penguins and Golden Grizzlies split the season series with both teams winning on their home court.
The final second round match is fourth-seeded UIC (21-8, 10-6) hosting fifth-seed Cleveland State (14-15, 9-7). The Flames and Titans split the season series with both teams winning on their home floor.
The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 14.
The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, March 16 at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
