No. 7 Wright State advanced into the second round of the loser's bracket with a 7-5 victory over No. 5 Butler on Friday at a wet Ashwaubenon Sports Complex in Green Bay, Wis. The contest was halted twice due to poor playing conditions.
After the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first, the Raiders took a 4-2 lead in the third inning on a unearned run by Mary Jane D'Arcy and a Kristen Farley two-RBI ground-rule double.
Wright State tacked on two more runs in the fourth, but Butler fired back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to close the Raider lead to 6-5. The score would remain the same until WSU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a Stephanie Salas solo shot to left center. Jessica Lander closed out the Bulldogs in the bottom half to pick up the save, while Amanda Cody (6-13) earned the win after striking out seven and scattering only two hits.
The Raiders were led at the plate by Salas who went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and the one RBI.
