No. 5 Milwaukee 59, No. 1 Green Bay 66

DETROIT | Jessica Lindstrom had 15 points and 12 rebounds, including a huge offensive rebound late in the game that allowed No. 1 Green Bay to extend its lead over No. 5 Milwaukee and hold on for a 66-59 victory in the 2017 Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championships on Monday afternoon.
Horizon League Player of the Year Mehryn Kraker stole the ball with 76 seconds remaining as Green Bay led 61-59. Kraker missed a jump shot on the other end late in the shot clock, but Lindstrom ripped away the offensive rebound, allowing the Phoenix to reset their offense and take more time off the clock. Allie LeClaire was later fouled on the possession and sank both free throws to extend Green Bay’s lead to 63-59.
Lindstrom and Jen Wellnitz connected on three free throws in the final 19 seconds to secure the victory. Milwaukee took just three shots in the final 2:03 of the game, all coming in the final 20 seconds. The Panthers (20-11) missed all three shots and were eliminated by the Phoenix in the Horizon League tournament for the third straight year.
Green Bay (26-5) advances to the Horizon League title game for the seventh straight year. The Phoenix have won and advanced to the NCAA tournament in five of the last six season.
Wellnitz equaled her career-high with 15 points and seven rebounds while adding six assists. Kraker had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists while playing all 40 minutes.
Milwaukee junior Steph Kostowicz led the Panthers with 16 points while Jenny Lindner added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
