INDIANAPOLIS – Soccer standout Maddie Drusch of Green Bay has been named Horizon League Female Scholar Athlete of the Month for September.
Drusch, a goalkeeper for the Phoenix, leads the Horizon League in goals-against average (.73), is ranked third in saves (66) and has allowed one goal or fewer in all but one contest in 2010. She is currently ranked 14th in the women’s soccer NCAA Division I standings in save-percentage (.88), and also led Green Bay to a first-place NCAA ranking in save percentage (.933) on Sept. 19.
An Elementary Education major, Drusch holds a 3.715 grade-point average. She earned a 4.0 GPA in the spring 2010 and was named to the Spring 2010 Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. She also helped her team to National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Team Academic Award last season.
The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Month awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the month’s competition. Winners are selected by the League’s faculty athletics representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
