INDIANAPOLIS - University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior guard Rachel Porath has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Nov. 10-16. It is Porath's fifth career weekly honor from the league office.
Porath, a Luxemburg, Wis., native, led Green Bay to a pair of road wins in the season's opening weekend, averaging 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game. She also shot 60 percent from the field, including 5-for-9 from three-point range.
Porath opened the week with eight points and six rebounds as the Phoenix routed Florida International, 68-45, in the season opener for both teams on Friday. The 5-foot-10 guard followed that with a 19-point effort on 7-of-9 shooting at Miami (Fla.), including the winning basket with 0.5 seconds remaining. Green Bay defeated the Hurricanes, 63-61, holding on for the win after leading by 13 at halftime.
The senior was named Horizon League Player of the Week three times last season, including back-to-back awards in December 2007. Porath, a first team All-Horizon League selection last season, also earned the award once as a sophomore.
Porath and the Phoenix (2-0) play two home contests this week, beginning with an 8 p.m. ET game against Chicago State Wednesday. Green Bay then welcomes Drake to the Kress Center Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
