Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Tony Walls, Green Bay
Junior, Midfielder
Wauwatosa, Wis.
INDIANAPOLIS – University of Wisconsin-Green Bay junior Tony Walls (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) has been named Horizon League Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, for the week beginning Sept. 13. Walls found the back of the net in each of the Phoenix’s Green Bay Soccer Classic matches, helping UWGB go 1-0-1.
In the tournament opener versus UNLV, Walls helped put the Phoenix on the board by starting a fast break up the right side of the field and collecting one of his two assists on the weekend. With Green Bay ahead, 1-0, Walls converted his second penalty kick of the season, potting the eventual game-winning goal.
On Sunday, Walls scored the first of Green Bay’s three goals in a 3-3 tie with Western Michigan. The junior brushed a header past the Bronco goalie to put the Phoenix ahead; Walls used his head again in the 61st minute to set up the third goal of the match for Green Bay.
For the week, Walls finished with two goals and two assists; after non-conference play, Walls leads the Phoenix with three goals and eight points.
Green Bay opens Horizon League play on Friday, Sept. 24, when they host #21 Butler at 7 p.m. CT.
