OAKLAND BREAKS SCORING RECORD IN SEASON OPENER AGAINST UM-DEARBORN, 123-38
Taylor Jones scored a game-high 23 points in her first collegiate game, Nola Anderson and Beth Mahurin each added 16 points and Elena Popkey tallied 12 assists as the Oakland women's basketball team won its season opener against UM-Dearborn, 123-38, on Friday from the Athletics Center O'rena. The Golden Grizzlies set a school record for most points in a single game as they played in front of the third-largest crowd in program history. Olivia Nash became the 27th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points in the first quarter. Read more

Junior Haleigh Ristovski (Sterling Heights, Mich. / University Liggett) notched a double-double and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds, but the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team fell in the season opener against visiting Bradley University, 75-67, at Calihan Hall. The Titans used a 15-4 in the fourth quarter to pull within one point of the Braves, but the Titans ultimately came up short in head coach Bernard Scott's head coaching debut. Read more

Senior Jessi Wiedemann (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) dropped in 14 points off the bench to spearhead a second-half comeback attempt for the Crusaders, but it was too little, too late. Senior Kaili Lukan (team-high 22 points) and junior Tesha Buck (19 points) combined for 41 points, including 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from beyond the arc, as the Green Bay women’s basketball team (1-0) defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles (0-1) in its home opener at the Kress Center on Friday night, 75-55.
