Indianapolis, Ind. - The Horizon League capped off another successful winter sports season with the announcement of its 2004-05 Winter Academic All-League teams. The League honored 78 student-athletes for their work in the classroom during the 2004-2005 academic year.

Eight three-time and 19 two-time selections highlight the 2004-05 Winter All-Academic Team. Overall, 78 student-athletes, including 27 returnees from the 2003-04 squad, were honored: women's swimming and diving (17), men's swimming and diving (17), women's indoor track and field (17), men's indoor track and field (17), women's basketball (5), and men's basketball (5).

UW-Green Bay led the League with 12 academic honorees. Butler followed with 11, while Wright State added 10. UIC, Loyola, UW-Milwaukee and Youngstown State added nine apiece. Cleveland State finished the season by placing five athletes to the list, while Detroit added four.

The Winter Academic All-Horizon League Teams are selected by the Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. Nominees must meet the following criteria: 1) a cumulative grade-point average (G.P.A.) of 3.25 or better on a 4.00 scale; 2) have completed at least three semesters at the same institution; and 3) be a starter or significant contributor in a League-sponsored sport. The team is comprised of the same number of first-team All-Horizon League student-athletes in each sport. Ties are not broken.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Butler's Jesse Levknecht, UW-Green Bay's Amy Christopherson and Sarah Ciganek, Wright State's Milda Zilinskaite and Youngstown State's Kalyn Leveto headline the All-Academic women's swimming and diving team as three-time Academic All-League selections. In addition, Abby Mayer of UW-Green Bay and Katie Rippl return from the 2003-04 team.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
In all, five members of the All-Academic men's swimming and diving team return from the 2003-04 squad including Cleveland State's Gabriel Linton and Daniel Thomasson, UIC's Bill Hare, UW-Milwaukee's Tim Watt and Wright State's Dejan Antolic and Matt Mangen. Antolic also appeared on the 2002-03 list.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Detroit's Andrea Karpala and Youngstown State's Emily Schnitkey return to the All-Academic women's indoor track and field team as three-time selections. Two-time honorees include Monika Schneider of Butler, Jenni Goebel of UIC, Anna Christian and Katie Slamka of UW-Milwaukee, and Stephanie Francis of Wright State.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
The men's indoor track and field All-Academic Team features five returning members from 2003-04, including Butler's Brian Dunn, Loyola's Chad Tredway and Sean Conroy and UW-Milwaukee's Josh Nygren and Sean Cludy.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The women's basketball All-Academic team features three first-team All-Horizon League selections, including Horizon League Player of the Year Tiffany Mor of UW-Green Bay. She is joined by teammate Abby Scharlow, who is a two-time All-Academic selection, and Youngstown State's Jen Perugini. Rounding out the squad are UW-Milwaukee's Kimberly Becker and Wright State's Angie Griffith.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
UW-Green Bay's Matt Rhode, a two-time All-Academic selection, highlights the five-person All-Academic men's basketball team. Butler's Drew Streicher and Andy Grunst, Cleveland State's Greg Vlosich and Wright State's Drew Burleson make their first appearance to the All-Academic squad.
