Horizon League Announces 2012-13 Academic Honor Roll

INDIANAPOLIS -- A total of 1,404 honorees - 705 student-athletes in the fall semester and 699 student-athletes in the spring semester - from all nine Horizon League institutions and all 19 League sports compile the 2012-13 Spring Academic Honor Roll. Valparaiso was the leader in the classroom, placing 106 student-athletes in the fall and 104 student-athletes in the spring, respectively, on the academic honor roll.

 

“Nothing we do at the league office makes us more proud than to recognize these true student-athletes, whose success in academia and competition so well reflect the values we champion,” Horizon League Commissioner Jonathan LeCrone said.

 

Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League’s 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).

 

Valparaiso paced the Horizon League in both the fall and spring semsters as the Crusaders had 210 total honorees. Milwaukee was second in the fall with 92 student-athletes and overall had 175 members, the second-most in the conference. Youngstown State had the second-most student-athletes on the spring honor roll with 87 and with 168 total, had the third-most honorees in the conference.

 

Loyola was next with 162 total honorees, followed closely by Detroit (157) and Green Bay (153). Wright State (138), Cleveland State (132) and UIC (109) round out the list. 

 

The Women’s track and field/cross country participants had the most student-athletes honored in both semesters with 89 student-athletes in the fall semester and 93 in the spring earning the honor. Women’s soccer players were next in both semesters, as over 80 student-athletes in both semesters earned a 3.2 or better.
