University of Detroit Mercy junior Earnest Cleary, Loyola University Chicago senior Michael Jarman, Detroit junior Sequoyia Calhoun and senior Brittany Horne have been named Horizon League Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the period of Nov. 30-Dec 6.
Cleary, a native of Detroit, Mich., receives the men's track honor after winning the 60-meter (6.86) and placing fourth in the 200-meter (22.71) on Friday at the Blue & Gold Invitational in South Bend, Ind. The 60-meter clocking broke a 1984 school record.
Jarman, a native of Felicity, Ohio, picks up the men's field award after placing third out of 26 competitors in the weight throw (18.56 meters) on Saturday at the Redbird Open in Normal, Ill. His mark broke the school record by five feet.
Calhoun, a native of Belleville, Mich., garners the women's track honor after placing second in the 400-meter (57.81) on Friday at the Blue & Gold Invitational (breaking the school's record). She also helped the 4x400 meter relay to a third-place finish (4:05.55).
Horne, a native of Okemos, Mich., collects the women's field award after winning the weight throw (17.01 meters) and placing fourth in the shot put (13.10 meters) at the Blue & Gold Invite. Both measurements were personal bests.
