Horizon League Announces Women's Basketball All-League Awards

Indianapolis, Ind. - Five seniors earned All-Horizon League First-and Second-Team honors and all nine teams were represented on the All-League, All-Newcomer and All-Defensive Teams, chosen by the League's head coaches, sports information directors and a media representative, the League office announced Monday, Feb. 28.
COACH OF THE YEAR
UW-Green Bay head coach Kevin Borseth was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his seven seasons at UW-Green Bay and for the fourth consecutive year. This season, Borseth led the Phoenix to a seventh straight Horizon League regular-season title. UWGB finished the regular-season with an overall record of 24-3 and a League record of 15-1. Borseth has guided the Phoenix to six straight 20-win seasons.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
UW-Green Bay senior forward Tiffany Mor was named the Horizon League Player of the Year as well as earned All-League First-Team honors. The 2004-05 Pre-Season First-Team pick leads the League in scoring and in blocks with 16.1 points and 2.3 blocks per contest. Mor ranks in the top 30 in the nation in blocks per game and in the top 10 in the nation for field-goal percentage at 62.2 percent.
UW-Green Bay Honors
UW-Green Bay placed senior Abby Scharlow on the All-League First-Team for the second consecutive season. The Horizon League Pre-Season Player of the Year ranks in the top 10 in the League for scoring (13.0 ppg), rebounding (5.2 rpg), assists (5.07 apg) and steals (2.04 spg). Sophomore Nicole Soulis returns to the All-League Second Team for the second year in a row after averaging 12.3 points per game this season. She currently boasts a 85.9 free-throw percentage which ranks her in the top 30 in the nation in that category. Senior Mary Kulenkamp is a repeat selection to the All-Defensive Team as she ranks in the top five in the League in steals with 52 on the season. Freshman Kayla Groh was the lone member of the Phoenix squad to be placed on the All-Newcomer Team.
UW-Milwaukee Honors
Nichole Drummond represents UW-Milwaukee on the First-Team, while Molly O'Brien earned Second-Team honors as well as a spot on the All-Defensive Team. Drummond leads the Panthers in scoring and ranks fourth in the League with 13.7 points per game. O'Brien leads the League in steals with 77 (2.85 per game) and ranks third in rebounds with 7.0 per game.
Wright State Honors
The future looks bright for Wright State as sophomore Brittney Whiteside represents the Raiders on the First-Team and the All-Defensive Team, while freshman Whitney Lewis earns Newcomer of the Year honors. Whiteside ranks in the top 10 in the League in scoring (13.0 ppg), rebounding (7.5 rpg), assists (2.59 apg) and steals (2.0 spg) and earned player of the week accolades on two occasions this season. Lewis, also a member of the All-Newcomer Team, finished the regular season averaging 9.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game and ranks third in the League in blocked shots with 1.33 per game.
UIC Honors
UIC is represented on the Second-Team by senior Dejeanette Flournoy and sophomore LaShonda Grant. Flournoy tallied five double-doubles on the season and earned player of the week honors on two occasions this year. For the season, Flournoy has registered an average of 10.3 points per game and 7.6 assists. Grant returns from the 2003-04 All-Newcomer Team and earned player of the week honors this season for the week of Jan. 24. She scored a League-high 31 points against Butler on Feb. 19 and scored 20 or more points on three other occasions. On the season, she is averaging 13.8 points and 2.3 assists per game.
Butler Honors
Senior Cortney Urquhart represents Butler on the All-Defensive Team. Urquhart ranks in the top five in rebounding (6.7 rpg) and blocked shots (1.04 bpg) and in the top 12 in steals (1.85 spg) and scoring (11.9 ppg). Teammate Cassie Freeman earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team. She is Butler's sixth-leading scorer with 3.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest. For the season, Freeman has averaged 18.8 minutes per game.
Youngstown State Honors
The final member of the First-Team is senior Jen Perugini of Youngstown State. Perugini is the League's second-leading scorer with 14.5 points per game and leading rebounder with 10.7 rebounds per contest. She leads the League in double-doubles as she has posted 13 on the season. Teammate Lauren Branson was named to the All-Newcomer Team. Branson averages 5.78 assists per game which ranks in the top 25 in the nation for that category.
Detroit Honors
Senior Melissa Harakas represents Detroit on the All-Defensive Team. On the season, Harakas has 32 steals, 41 assists and nine blocks. She averages 2.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Harakas has started 26 of 27 games this season.
Loyola Honors
Loyola placed senior Meskhenet Lands on the Second-Team. Lands is the League's third-leading scorer with 13.7 points per contest. She also ranks in the top 10 in assists (2.85 apg), free-throw percentage (74.7 percent) and three-point field-goal percentage (42.1 percent).
Cleveland State Honors
Freshman Brittany Korth of Cleveland State completes the All-Newcomer Team. On the season, Korth has averaged 6.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest this season. She has started 18 of 27 games and averages 26.4 minutes of playing time per contest.
