INDIANAPOLIS - Loyola University Chicago junior Cynthia Morote-Ariza has been named the Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Year for the second straight season, according to a poll of the women's coaches in the Horizon League. University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee freshman Sarah Hagen was voted the league's newcomer of the year and UWM head coach Michael Moynihan was named Horizon League Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Morote-Ariza, a forward from Chicago, led Loyola to a share of the regular season championship and a number one seed in the postseason tournament for the first time in school history. She is second in the Horizon League with 43 points (13g, 17a) and leads the conference in shots (78), assists (17) and game-winning goals (7). Her total of 17 assists is currently the highest mark in the nation.

Hagen, who was also named first team All-Horizon League with Morote-Ariza, helped No. 18 Milwaukee to a 15-2-2 regular season record and a share of the regular season title. The Appleton, Wis., native currently leads the country with 20 goals, and she ranks second in the nation with 44 points (20g, 4a).

Moynihan led his team to a 7-1-0 record and a share of its ninth consecutive regular season championship. The Panthers outscored their Horizon League foes 26-2, with their only setback coming on Oct. 3 at Loyola. UWM is now 55-2-3 in conference play since 2001. Moynihan previously received coach of the year honors in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2007.

Eight other field players and a goalkeeper join Morote-Ariza and Hagen as first-team honorees. Milwaukee placed four additional players on the first team: senior Sarah Teegarden, juniors Erin Kreuser and Kate Megna and senior goalkeeper Erin Kane. Wright State University was the only team with multiple first team selections, with senior Jess Rooma and sophomore Amber Kasmer receiving accolades.

Seniors Claire Townsend of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Jackie Thomas of Valparaiso University and junior Molly Kruger of Butler University were also named first team All-Horizon League.

Loyola was well-represented on the second team, with four players getting recognition. Sophomores Ashley Funk and Laura Trevillian were joined by junior Julie Colhoff and freshman goalkeeper Katie Groesch on the team. Butler and the University of Detroit Mercy each had two players get recognized on the second team.

Hagen and Groesch were also named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team. Milwaukee freshmen Mary Wandolowski and Keara Thompson were all-newcomer picks along with one player each from the other seven schools in the Horizon League.

The U.S. Army Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship kicks off Wednesday when No. 8 Valparaiso hosts No. 9 Youngstown State at 3 p.m. ET. The winner of that match will advance to face top seed Loyola Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals. No. 2 Milwaukee, No. 3 Wright State and No. 4 Butler will also host a quarterfinal match on Sunday with the four remaining teams playing at the highest remaining seed Nov. 7 and 9.
