Baseball Player of the Week
Jim Phillips
Youngstown State, Senior, OF/IF, Davis, Calif.
Youngstown State senior Jim Phillips is the Horizon League Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 21.
Phillips had a solid week for the Penguins, going 3-6 in a doubleheader against Dayton on Feb. 19. Phillips added 5 RBI's (2 HRs) including a game winning grand slam in the top of the sixth of game one.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Robert Barrett
Wright State, Junior, RHP, Orangeville, Calif.
Wright State junior Robert Barrett is the Horizon League Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Feb. 21.
Barrett was the first Raider pitcher to ever shut out Western Carolina. Barrett threw only 70 pitches in his 6.1 innings of work scattering four hits, as he held the Catamounts to no hits until the fourth inning.

Butler Bulldogs (0-0, 0-0 HL)
The Bulldogs open the 2005 in less than three weeks. They begin their season on the road at Indiana Univeristy in Bloomington, IN. on March 2 (3:00 p.m.). Following their game against the Hoosiers, the Bulldogs will travel to Evansville, IN two days later from March 4-6. They will play Evansville three times and South Dakota State once on their trip to the south-west corner of Indiana.
Cleveland State (0-0, 0-0 HL)
Cleveland State will open their season in a few weeks when it travels to Cincinnat, OH to take on the Bearcats in a three game series. Their first contest against the University of Cincinnati will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4. The second game of the series is on March 5 at 4:00 p.m. as well. The series will conclude Sunday, March 6 with an early afternoon game beginning at 1:00 p.m.
UIC Flames (0-3, 0-0 HL)
The Flames had a rough start to their season, going 0-3 against Evansville. UIC had nine players make their debut in Flames' uniforms this past weekend. Junior reliever Bill Bernabei returned to the mound for the first time in close to a year, after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2004. Bernabei tossed one inning of relief against Evansville on Sunday and held the Purple Aces hitless.
UW-Milwaukee Panthers (0-0, -0 HL)
The Panthers will open the campaign by facing three different opponents in Clarksville, Tenn. UWM will open the season on Friday (Feb. 25) versus the host school, Austin Peay, at 1 p.m. The Panthers will then face Akron at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 26) and Valparaiso at 10 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 27). All three games will be played at Raymond C. Hand Park on the APSU campus.
Wright State Raiders (1-2, 0-0 HL)
WSU opened their 2005 season by going 1-2 against Western Carolina. Senior Bryan Vickers started off the 2005 campagin with a hot start hitting .625 (5-8) so far this season with four RBI and five free bases (four walks, one HBP). Also, Head Coach Rob Cooper picked up his first win as the Raider headman, in the 12-0 defeat of the Catamounts in the second game of the Raiders double-dip. Nine Raiders made their first apperances in the Green and Gold this weekend, with four collecting their first hits and one picking up his first win.
Youngstown State (1-1, 0-0 HL)
Helping YSU open their year to a 1-1 start against Dayton was Horizon League player of the week Jim Thomas. Thomas hit .500 for the weekend in which he batted in 5 runs for YSU. Nine Penguins made their YSU debut on Saturday against the Flyers. Among them were three freshmen pitchers, three redshirt freshmen and transfers. Freshman Ryan Sellman pitched a perfect seventh inning in game one to pick up a save while classmate Joe Johnson threw a scoreless sixth inning as the setup man. Redshirt freshman Erich Diedrich went 1-for-2 with a double and a sacrifice fly in game two while transfers Dustin Thomas and Brian Dill each recorded two hits apiece in the game.
