YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Milwaukee seeks its ninth straight men’s indoor track and field team title this weekend and the women’s team will be competing for its fourth in a row at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Youngstown, Ohio. The Championship will be held at the brand new Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) on Youngstown State’s campus Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 25-26).
Valparaiso’s Julian Smith comes into the weekend’s meet as the top seed in both the 60m and 200m dash. Bay Abbott and Declan Murray of Loyola lead the 400m and 800m run, respectively. Butler’s trio of Tom Curr, Ross Clarke and Callum Hawkins look to do well in the distance events. Milwaukee has several top contenders for the 60m hurdles, high jump, pole vault, triple jump and in the heptathlon. Bobby Grace of Youngstown State leads in the shot put and Milwaukee’s Matt Jensen tops the weight throw ranks.
On the women’s side, six different schools hold the top performances of the season. The Penguins controls the field events, including weight throw and shot put (Kaitlyn Griffith) and high jump (Katrina Rettburg). Milwaukee has high hopes for claiming the triple jump and long jump behind junior Samia Taylor. Cassandra Lloyd of Wright State leads the 60m hurdles and Butler has a strong hold on the 800m, 1 mile, 3000m and 5000m runs.
