Detroit – In recognition of the Oak Park High School Marching Legion’s tireless efforts at the 2016 Horizon League Men’s Basketball Tournament, the League made a donation to the band at a presentation this afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner Julie Roe Lach recognized the Oak Park Marching Legion for their efforts at the 2016 Horizon League Motor City Madness. “As a token of our appreciation we would like to make this donation, as you all came out in full force to support our teams at ‘Motor City Madness,’” Roe Lach said as she presented band director Virgil Goodwine and the rest of the Marching Legion with the check.
The donation was met with resounding applause and cheers from the students and administrators alike. “The students loved it, they are still wearing their Green Bay t-shirts around school,” Goodwine said.
The Oak Park High School band welcomed teams as they arrived in Detroit, and served as Green Bay’s team band over the course of the Phoenix’s run to the Horizon League championship.
Oak Park Marching Legion was present all four days of ‘Motor City Madness,’ bringing Joe Louis Arena to life, along with rocking the Marriott Renaissance as teams arrived. The band helped create a terrific championship atmosphere at Motor City Madness, culminating in the Green Bay men’s team celebrating its championship with the band shortly after clinching the title.
