Horizon League 2011 Spring Academic All-League Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- 89 student-athletes were selected across eight sports based on their successes in competition and in the classroom, as the Horizon League announced its 2011 Spring Academic All-League Teams. Student-athlete nominees were voted upon by by the League’s faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.
20 student-athletes were selected in women’s indoor track and field due to a tie in voting, while men’s indoor track and field had its required number of 19. Baseball and softball saw 12 student-athletes picked. Men’s and women’s golf each had seven honorees, while men’s and women’s tennis each had six student-athletes tabbed.
Butler led the 89 all-league honorees with 17 selections, followed by Youngstown State, who had 13 picks. 10 Loyola student-athletes earned places on the teams, while UIC and Valparaiso each had nine student-athletes. Cleveland State and Detroit had eight apiece, with Milwaukee (six), Wright State (five) and Green Bay (four) rounding out the all-league teams.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
