INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Multi-event athletes Mike Savegnago (UIC) and Kory Olson (Milwaukee) were selected Horizon League men's and women's outdoor track Athletes of the Week, respectively. Both athletes captured League titles in the multi-event portion of the Horizon League Championships.

Male Athlete of the Week
Mike Savegnago
UIC
Jr., Winfield, Ill.
Savegnago earned the League's final Athlete of the Week award after he captured his second career decathlon title in the Horizon League multi-event championships this past weekend in Indianapolis. The junior posted a career-best 6,104 points and also tallied career-best marks in the 110-meter hurdles (16.41) and the javelin throw (136 feet, 5 inches). Savegnago helped UIC tally 21 combined points.

Female Athlete of the Week
Kory Olson
Milwaukee
Jr., Appleton, Wis.
Olson becomes the third Panther this season to be named Horizon League Athlete of the Week. The UWM junior receives the award after she won the heptathlon crown at the Horizon League Multi-Event Championships last weekend in Indianapolis. She scored 4,457 points to win the event by 459 points. Olson's best performance came in the javelin with a toss of 127 feet, 7 inches.

Other Men's Top Performers for the Week
Adam Mayhew
Detroit
Jr., Richmond, Mich.
Mayhew finished runner-up in two events after he posted a career best throw of 159 feet, 10 inches in the discus and a heave of 161'11" feet in the hammer while competing at the Toledo Invitational.

Tyler Bucholz
Milwaukee
So., Crystal, Minn.
Bucholz won the 200-meter dash this past weekend at the Redbird Classic. The UWM sophmore tied his personal-best time of 21.39.

Steve Bartholomew
Valparaiso
Sr., Valparaiso, Ind.
Bartholomew won the hammer throw at the Butler Twilight meet after he posted a winning toss of 186 feet, 8 inches. The Valpo senior's performance was over 11 feet farther than the runner-up toss. Bartholomew also posted a second-place finish in the discus throw, registering a mark of 164-11.

Aaron Merrill
Youngstown State
So., Leetonia, Ohio
Merrill posted a mark of 58 feet, 9.25 inches in the shot put at the Butler Twilight meet to win the event by six feet. Merrill ranks 27th in the country according to trackshark.com. He also holds the circuit's top distance by more than seven feet.

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week
Brittany Horne
Detroit
Jr., Okemos, Mich.
Horne came away with three top-eight finishes this past weekend at the Toledo Invitational. Horne was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 0.5 inches. She also placed fifth in the hammer throw with a heave of 152-5 and seventh in the discus with a mark 120-6.

Idara Essien
UIC
Sr., Wheaton, Ill.
Essien placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 4 inches while competing at the Butler Twilight meet on Saturday afternoon.

Melanie Wilson
Valparaiso
Sr., St. Louis, Mo.
Wilson posted three top-five finishes at the Butler Twilight meet. The senior crossed the line third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.27 seconds. On the infield, she placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-3.75 and followed with a fifth-place effort in the triple jump, recording a mark of 37-2.50. Wilson also anchored winning 4x100m relay team.

Bethany Anderson

Sr., Jamestown, N.Y.
Anderson won the hammer throw (172 feet, 7 inches) and had a season-best toss of 43-8 in the shot put to place third at the Butler Twilight meet.
