Horizon League Softball Players of the Week (April 10)

INDIANAPOLIS – Two seniors brought home the weekly honors with Oakland’s Lyndsay Hill earning Player of the Week after batting a scorching 11-16 with seven RBI. Meanwhile, UIC’s Elaine Heflin has been named Pitcher of the Week after dealing a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts.

Lyndsay Hill / Oakland / Senior / Infielder / Midland, Mich.

Hill started at second base for all six games on the week and batted 11-16 as Oakland swept both Cleveland State and Green Bay. The senior’s 11 hits were spread out over five games including a 3-4 performance where Hill batted in four runs and fell just a double short of the cycle. On the week, the infielder recorded seven runs batted in, seven runs scored, and five extra-base hits. With the back-to-back series sweeps, Oakland is now 8-4 in Horizon League play.

This is Hill’s first Player of the Week honor on the season.

Elaine Heflin / UIC / Senior / Pitcher / Downers Grove, Ill.

Heflin took to the mound in her lone outing on the weekend and tossed her first career no-hitter against Youngstown State in nine innings of work. The senior struck out 17 batters as the Flames prevailed 1-0 in extra innings. The pitcher’s no-hitter was UIC’s first no-hitter since 2013. With the no-hit effort, the Downers Grove, Ill. native, has thrown three shutouts and nine complete games on the season. Heflin is second in the Horizon League with 88 strikeouts earning Pitcher of the Week for the second time on the season.
