UW-Green Bay senior Kristin Kosobucki is the Horizon League Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 18.
Kosobucki went 2-0 on the week with nine innings of scoreless and hitless pitching in a pair of wins in Youngstown to boost the Phoenix to a 4-1 week. On Saturday, Kosobucki fired a no-hitter while striking out 12 in a seven-inning effort, just missing a perfect game with a pair of walks in the first inning. Then, in Sunday's contest, Kosobucki came in for two innings of relief, earning the win with two innings of work while giving up no hits. The senior right hander is now 5-3 on the season with a 1.73 ERA in eight appearances.
Other Top Player Performances - April 18
JoAnna Gonzalez, Butler, Sophomore, 2B (Spokane, Wash.)
Gonzalez batted an incredible .476 at the plate last week, including two doubles that led the Bulldogs to a win Sunday against Horizon League opponent Detroit. Gonzalez led off Sunday's contest with a double and scored the team's first run. She then doubled in a pair of insurance runs in the second inning of the Bulldogs' 3-0 win. Gonzalez had two RBIs, five runs, three doubles, a stolen base and a .577 on-base percentage for the week.
Michele Penney, Cleveland State, Sophomore, OF (Ravenna, Ohio)
Penny batted .391 last week (9-for-23), collecting seven RBI and four extra base hits while scoring four runs. She hit for the cycle over the weekend against Wright State, going 4-for-10 with a double, triple and home run en route to driving in five runs.
Lindsay Roy, Detroit, Junior, P/DP (Brampton, Ontario)
Roy hit .583 this week in four games for the Titans. She collected seven hits including three doubles and drove in three runs. Roy had a .600 slugging percentage and reached base at a .615 clip, while also registering a sacrifice hit and was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. In league action against Butler, Roy hit at a .556 clip with two doubles, slugged .778 and reached base at a .600 pace to help the Titans win the season series from the Bulldogs.
Nicole Shepard, UIC, Junior, OF (Diamond Bar, Calif.)
Shepard batted .538 (7-for-13) in four games last week with a double, a home run and three RBI as the Flames went 2-2 while winning its cross-town series at Loyola. Shepard recorded a hit in all four games and capped the week by going 3-for-4 with a homer in the Flames 11-3 triumph over the Ramblers. In the three-game set at Loyola Softball Park, Shepard went 6-for-11 at the dish for a .545 average while also tabbing an assist from centerfield. For the season, Shepard is now batting .368 with four home runs and 15 RBI while she is also hitting .321 in league games.
Allison Scanlin, Loyola, Senior, 1B (Tacoma, Wash.)
Scanlin batted a robust .636 (7 for 11) with five of her hits going for extra bases last week. The left-handed-hitting first baseman hit safely in each of Loyola's five contests last week to run her streak to eight consecutive games with at least one hit. Scanlin doubled home the game-winning runs in a 3-1 decision at UW-Green Bay on April 14, then went 4 for 5 with three doubles and two RBI in a doubleheader against UIC on April 16. Her three-run home run accounted for all of the Ramblers' runs in an 11-3 loss to the Flames on April 17. With seven RBI last week, Scanlin, who also posted a 1.273 slugging percentage, moved into second place on the Loyola career RBI chart with 82. She needs three more RBI to tie the all-time Loyola mark of 85. Last week, she also moved into fifth on the LU career lists for home runs (10) and fourth in doubles (33).
Ali Rostkowski, UW-Green Bay, Junior, SS (East Troy, Wis.)
Rostkowski led the Phoenix with her bat during the team's 4-1 week against Horizon League foes, as the junior shortstop was 7-14 at the plate with five of her hits going for extra bases. In the team's three-game set with Youngstown State, Rostkowski was 6-9 with a triple, three doubles and four runs, including a 4-4 day in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Penguins. Against Loyola April 14, Rostkowski blasted her first home run of the season in UW-Green Bay's 6-0 victory at Phoenix Field. Rostkowski now leads the team with a .328 batting average on the year and leads her team with 13 runs scored.
Other Top Pitching Performances - April 18
Anna Ollgaard, Detroit, Senior, P/OF (Portage, Mich.)
Ollgaard posted a 2-1 record in 18 innings for the Titans last week. She struck out five batters and was a perfect 1-0 in league play, defeating Butler 7-4 behind a complete game effort to help Detroit win the season series. Ollgaard helped her team's cause at the plate by posting a .400 average with a .400 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. She also recorded four sacrifice hits as well.
Brittany McIntyre, UIC, Junior, P (Orland Park, Ill.)
McIntyre enjoyed another strong week in the circle, going 2-1 with a 2.58 ERA, tabbing both of her wins in the Flames' series with Loyola. After a tough-luck loss to Notre Dame, McIntyre rebounded to shutout Loyola in the series opener. It was her third straight shutout against a league opponent. In the rubber match of the weekend set, McIntyre did see her 21 scoreless innings streak snapped against the Ramblers but not her winning streak against league foes as she earned the victory in the 11-3 UIC triumph. The Orland, Park, Ill., native allowed just three hits in five innings in the series finale and is now 5-0 this season in league games with a 1.63 ERA. Overall, McIntyre is a career-best 15-10 this year with a 3.27 ERA.
Mia Pangere, Loyola, Senior, RHP (Crown Point, Ind.)
Pangere went 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA and no walks in a pair of starts for Loyola last week. The senior right-hander who has won four of her last five decisions, scattered four hits and struck out three in a complete-game, 3-1 victory at UW-Green Bay. She came back to throw 5.0 innings and earn the win in the Ramblers' 12-3 victory over UIC on April 16. In Horizon League action this season, Pangere is 4-2 with a 2.50 ERA.
Amanda Cody, Wright State, Sophomore, P/DP (Tampa, Fla.)
Cody allowed just one run with three strikeouts in complete-game win at Miami (Ohio) on April 12. She struck out four in 4.2 innings of relief to get win in second game of Cleveland State doubleheader before tallying five strikeouts in complete-game win over CSU in series finale April 17. For the week, Cody went 3-1 while striking out 14 batters in 20.2 innings of work.

Butler Bulldogs (18-21, 6-4 HL)
Sophomore Jamie Wonderly hit her first career home run Saturday against Detroit. Wonderly, known more for her work in the circle than in the batter's box, has just four at-bats this season and 17 as a freshman...freshman Jenny Jacobs hit her seventh home run of the season Saturday, improving the Butler single-season record that she now owns. The previous mark was four dingers...the Bulldogs have played 17 one-run games this season, winning eight of those contests...senior Lynn Hohs hit her first home run of the season Saturday...junior Meghan Howard allowed just three earned runs in 14.1 innings of work last week for a 1.47 ERA, but was the hard-luck loser in two games.
Cleveland State (10-21, 2-4 HL)
Five Horizon League contests this week bring to a close a stretch that will have seen the Vikings play 21 games in 19 days. Prior to that, CSU played just two games in 17 days due to inclement weather...Cleveland State out-hit its opponents .277 - .219 last week, but mustered just a 4-3 record as 15 errors led to nine unearned runs...Senior catcher Jackie Cornelius put together her best week of the season, batting .526 (10-for-19) with three RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases. She also threw out four runners on the basepaths.
Detroit Titans (14-15, 5-3 HL)
The Titans rebounded from two hard losses to Central Michigan (who, it should be noted, beat #1-ranked Michigan the week before coming to Detroit) on Tuesday to win four in a row against IPFW and Butler...With their two wins against the Bulldogs, the Titans have won more series this season (YSU, BU) than they did in 2004 when they held the edge only over Wright State...The 14-15 Titans are now just one game away from the .500 mark and are currently 5-3 in the league and share third place...Senior Anna Ollgaard has shown the talent this season that made her the Newcomer of the Year as a freshman in 2002...Thought to be more of a pitcher for Detroit this season, Ollgaard has pulled double duty as she is also the Titans everyday centerfielder when not in the circle. She is currently hitting .333 with five doubles, a homerun and a team best 16 RBIs. In the circle, she has a 3.16 ERA and a 5-3 record in a team high 62 innings...On Saturday prior to the 1:00 p.m. twinbill against Cleveland State, the UDM Athletic Department will pause to honor the four Titan seniors who will all graduate this spring. Lisa Ferguson, Jessie Kish, Anna Ollgaard and Alison Scarfone have all completed their degree requirements and will be graduating in May...Ollgaard has completed her degree in education, including her student teaching in just four years, a feat rarely achieved at UDM due to the difficulty of the program....Ollgaard was recently honored by the University of Detroit Mercy with their Malcom Carron Education Award for the graduating senior with the highest GPA in her program for seven terms. This award is given out to one senior in the entire education program. Ollgaard, an Academic All-America nominee, currently has a 3.97 GPA in math education....Sophomore Michelle Baggio was also honored by the University and was presented with the Helen Keen Undergraduate Studies award for the best undergraduate education student paper demonstrating scholarship in content and form, creativity, approach and insight...All 14 of the student-athletes eligible for the Athletic Director's Honor Roll at UDM have been named to the list and will be honored at the Annual President's Award Luncheon prior to the Titans games against Wright State on Thursday.
UIC Flames (30-21, 7-2 HL)
UIC has won 15 of its last 16 games, batting .339 as a team during the stretch while averaging 9.3 hits and 5.3 runs per contest...The Flames have shown plenty of power at the plate of late, hitting 21 of their 27 home runs this season in the last 16 games...Senior Cameron Astiazaran is closing in on the NCAA single-season doubles record of 29 set by Fresno State's Nina Lindenberg back in 1996. Astiazaran currently has 23 doubles this season with five weeks remaining in the regular season...With its three-game sweep of Youngstown State April 2-3 , UIC had won 16 straight games versus Horizon League foes until UW-Green Bay defeated the Flames this weekend 3-2...Ironically, the last UIC loss to a league opponent came in a 5-3 defeat to the Phoenix on April 17, 2004.
Loyola Ramblers (12-23, 5-5 HL)
Loyola handed UIC its worst-ever loss in Horizon League play with a 12-3 victory on April 16...with that win, the Ramblers' senior class recorded its 100th career victory...freshman Kat Krause slugged her fourth home run of the season on April 16 against UIC and is now three roundtrippers shy of tying the school record for homers by a freshman...senior 1B Allison Scanlin now has driven in 82 runs in her career, placing her second on the Ramblers' all-time list, just three behind Stephanie Trenerry's career mark of 85 RBI...Scanlin also ranks fifth in career home runs with 10 and fourth with 33 doubles...the Ramblers play their next nine contests away from home...senior right-hander Mia Pangere has won four of her last five decisions.
UW-Green Bay Phoenix (12-13, 5-3 HL)
The Phoenix surpassed last season's win total of eight with three weeks left in the regular season thanks to its 4-1 week against Horizon League foes...UW-Green Bay will face Butler this weekend in Indianapolis for a three-game series April 23-24... Not to be outdone by Kosobucki's strong showing on the mound this week, senior Stephanie Hansen also went 2-0 in 14 innings for a 0.50 ERA. Hansen scattered seven hits while allowing just one earned run while striking out 14.
Wright State Raiders (11-13, 3-5 HL)
Wright State went 3-2 last week, which included winning its first Horizon League series in over a year by taking two of three at Cleveland State. After hitting just one home run in the first 23 games, Amanda Cody smacked two in the series finale at CSU. Cody finished with seven hits and seven RBI in the series. After playing 19 of its first 24 games away from home, Wright State will play 11 of its next 13 at home, starting this week with Ohio State on Tuesday and UIC over the weekend.
Youngstown State (16-25, 2-9 HL)
Junior Tiffany Patteson set the YSU career triples record at 14 after belting her third triple of the season against UW-Green Bay on Sunday. Patteson now holds the YSU all-time triples mark and ranks third all-time with 41 career doubles...With five home runs this season, freshman McKenzie Bedra is now tied for fifth on the YSU single-season home run chart.
