The late-September heat hasn't bothered the Horizon League's golf teams.
In the past three days both the Green Bay men's team and the Butler women's team won tournaments while the Valpo women set a new team scoring record.
The Green Bay men dominated the Erv Kaiser Invitational held in Oxbow, North Dakota. The Phoenix team shot +35 for the tournament, eight shots better than second-place Manitoba. Individually, Green Bay had the two top scores for the week. Sam Weber shot a tournament best +5 while Cam Fuller came in tied for second with a +6.
Not to be outdone, the Butler women's golf team won the Cougar Classic held in Hammond, IN. Butler shot a 622, four shots ahead of runner up IUPUI.The Bulldogs were led by runner up Michele Nash who shot a 71 and 77 for a two-day tournament score of 148. Nash's teammate Molly Fields came in fourth with a two-day score of 150.
Loyola's women were just off the pace in finishing third with a score of 633. The Ramblers were coming off a championship at the Green Bay Fall Invitational last week.
Coming in tied (with Green Bay) for 8th at the Cougar Classic was ever-improving women's Valparaiso squad. The Crusaders set a school record in the first round of play shooting a 323. The previous mark lasted only a week as the Crusaders topped the 324 they shot at the Green Bay Invitational.
Next up for all four teams is the Butler Invitational on October 4th and 5th.
