Horizon League Tennis Championship: Butler Men and Women to Play in Championship Match

Indianapolis, Ind. - For the sixth consecutive year, top seeded UIC will face the No. 2 Butler Bulldogs in the Horizon League Women's Tournament Championship, Sunday at North Central High School. On the men's side, top seeded Butler will play No. 2 seeded UW-Green Bay in the men's championship final. Play will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The UIC women advanced to the championship round by defeating No. 8 UW-Milwaukee 4-0 and No. 5 Youngstown State by the same score. The Butler women kicked off tournament play by knocking down No. 7 Detroit and No. 6 Cleveland State by 4-0 each. The Bulldogs will be making their eighth appearance in the championship final. To claim the touranment title, BU will have to defeat UIC, which has never lost the Horizon League Championship since the event moved to Indianapolis in 1997. The Flames currently own seven league titles and defeated Butler last year by a score of 4-1. Also tomorrow, No. 5 Youngstown State will challenge No. 6 Cleveland State for a shot at the third place position while No. 4 Wright State will take on No.3 UW-Green Bay for fifth place.

The top seeded Butler men knocked off No. 4 Cleveland State by a score of 4-0 to advance to the title match. BU will meet No. 2 UW-Green Bay who defeated No. 3 UIC 4-3. In other tournament action, Wright State blanked Youngstown State 4-0 to claim the fifth place postition. UIC will battle with Cleveland State on Sunday for a chance to take home third place. Last year, the Bulldogs defeated UW-Green Bay in the championship final to take home the Horizon League trophy.
