Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week (Feb. 14)

INDIANAPOLIS - Northern Kentucky senior, Mate Virag has been tabbed as the Horizon League Men's Tennis Player of the Week and UIC sophomore, Georgie Sanders has been recognized Horizon League Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

SINGLES:

Mate Virag / Northern Kentucky / Senior / Szentes, Hungary

For the second time this season Virag has been selected as the player of the week after going 2-0 in singles play as the team's No. 1 against Dayton and Chattanooga. Versus Dayton, the senior rallied from a 2-5 deficit to win 7-6 in the first set eventually winning the point for the Norse after taking the second set 6-3. In the team's match against Chattagnooga, the Hungarian took care of business winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

Virag's play set the tone for Northern Kentucky as the team defeated Dayton 4-0 and Chattanooga 4-2 to help the team improve to 3-2 on the season.

Georgie Sanders / UIC / Sophomore / Buckingham, England

In the team's lone match of the week against Bradley, Sanders point proved to be the difference as the Flames edged the Braves 4-3. Playing as UIC's No. 2 in singles, the sophomore split the first two sets 6-3, 3-6 before breezing through the third set 6-2 clinching the match point. UIC is now 3-2 on the year including a perfect 3-0 record at home.

DOUBLES:

Javier Araya and Andrew Niehaus / Northern Kentucky

Playing together in the team's match versus Dayton, Araya and Niehaus clinched the doubles point for the Norse preserving the perfect 4-0 score for the Norse. The pair trailed early in the match before overcoming the difference for the 6-4 victory.

Miranda Rodriguez and Stefana Vasic / UIC

Rodriguez and Vasic, playing as the No. 3 doubles team for UIC, won the set that clinched the doubles point for the Flames. The two's 7-5 win proved to be critical towards the team winning the match 4-3 against Bradley.
