INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State sophomore guard Kailey Klein was tabbed as the Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week after she scored 21 points in a 65-63 win at home against American to lead the Vikings to their sixth win of the year.

Sophomore guard Kailey Klein receives her first career Player of the Week honor. Klein receives the award after she led the Vikings to a win by knocking down a 17-footer from the left wing at the buzzer, which gave CSU a 65-63 win over American on Saturday. With the win, the Vikings improved to 6-5 on the season. Klein finished with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists in 35 minutes of action. In addition, the Illinois native was 7-of-15 from the field and hit all seven of her free throws. Klein, who is leading the League in scoring (18.8 ppg), has hit her last 18 free throw attempts after going 11-for-11 at Colgate (Dec. 21) in the Vikings previous contest. Klein is shooting .864 (76-88) from the line this season and has scored in double figures in all 11 games this season.

Susan Lester, Butler

Lester led Butler to its 10th win of the year on Saturday and its eighth in a row as the Bulldogs defeated Ball State 66-49 on the road. Lester scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. She was also a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. In the second half, Lester scored 21 of her 25 points and also pulled in five of her six rebounds in the closing 20 minutes.
Lavesa Glover, Green Bay
Jr. * C * Miami, Fla.
In just 27 minutes of work, Glover tallied her second-straight career-high game, leading the Phoenix with 18 points in Green Bay's 82-65 win at Southern Illinois on Saturday. Glover just missed a double-double with nine rebounds as she shot 8-of-12 from the field. She was also a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line in aiding Green Bay to its fourth straight win.
Traci Edwards, Milwaukee

Edwards notched her sixth double-double of the season with a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead UWM to a 76-55 win over NAIA No. 17 Cardinal Stritch on Friday. The UWM junior also added three assists, three steals and hit her only three-point attempt. Edwards is within one point of becoming the fifth player in school Division I history to score 1300 points
Jessie Miller, UIC

Miller helped guide UIC to its fourth straight win at home on Friday as she netted 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds against Bucknell. Miller was 8-for-13 from the field and drained three treys in the win. Miller also added five assists, two steals and two blocks against the Bison.
News From Around the League
Butler
The Bulldogs defeated Ball State on Saturday to 66-49 to improve to 10-1 on the year.
Butler's 10-1 start to the season is tied with the 1990-91 team for the program's best start in the last 26 seasons (1981-82 team went 14-1).
Sophomore forward Susan Lester scored 25 points against Ball State and 21 of those points came in the second half.
The 6-1 forward leads the team with an average of 10.8 points in the second period, including a pair of 20-plus point efforts (24 vs. Evansville on Dec. 6 and 21 at Ball State on Dec. 29).
After Ball State closed to within six at 51-45 with 8:43 to play in the game, Butler held BSU to just four points on 2-for-12 shooting from the field for the remainder of the contest.
Butler averaged just 58.6 points per game through the first five games of the year, but since then the Bulldogs have averaged 74.8 points per contest.
BU begins League play on Saturday at 2:35 p.m. as it travels to Valparaiso.
Cleveland State
In the Vikings (6-5) lone game of the week, CSU defeated American 65-63 on Saturday thanks to a buzzer beating jump shot by sophomore guard Kailey Klein.
With the win, CSU is 6-5 after 11 games, marking the Vikings best start to a season since the 1999-2000 squad began the season 8-3.
The Vikings also improved improved to 6-1 this season in games that they led at halftime. CSU led American, 31-27, after the first 20 minutes.
The Vikings have used the same starting five - Angel Roque, Brittany Korth, Kailey Klein, Dominique Butler and Robyn Hoying - for all 11 games this season.
CSU has taken 47 fewer shots than its opponents combined this season, yet has outscored the opposition, 714-692.
Cleveland State begins League play on Thursday at home against Loyola. Tip off is scheduled at 5:00 p.m.
Detroit
The Titans (2-8) open League play on Thursday when they meet Green Bay at 7 p.m.
UDM closed out 2007 with a 55-40 setback at home against Toledo on Dec. 18, but rebounded with a victory over IPFW (62-52) on Dec. 21 to capture its first road win of the season.
Junior guard Zemora Davis paced Detroit with 10 points after a 5-of-11 showing from the field against Toledo. Sophomore guard Chanica Hall poured in a career-high 22 points in the Titans' win, which included a 9-of-13 outing at the line. Senior forward India Bruster grabbed a game-high 12 boards to post double-digits in rebounds for the third time this season.
Detroit set a few season-highs against IPFW in free throws made with 18 and rebounds with 47.
Green Bay
The Phoenix (8-3) defeated Southern Illinois 82-65 on the road on Saturday.
For the second straight game, a Phoenix player had a double-double as junior guard Rachel Porath grabbed her second career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Although Green Bay made just three three-pointers in its win over Southern Illinois, the Phoenix posted a season-high 37 field goals to notch a season-best 82 points.
All five Green Bay starters scored in double figures in the win. Junior center Lavesa Glover hit a career-high in scoring with 18 points. In addition, junior guard Kati Harty and junior foward Erin Templin also chipped in with 17 and 12 points, respectively.
Harty also led Green Bay's defense with a career-tying six steals.
The Phoenix begin League play on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. on the road against Detroit.
Loyola
The Ramblers (2-9) open up League play on Jan. 3 at Cleveland State.
LU returns to action after competing in the Florida Gulf Coast Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., where it went 1-1.
Loyola opened the event on Dec. 20 and fell to Memphis 86-79. LU rebounded with a 67-59 win over Texas Pan-American on Dec. 21.
Sophomore guard Maggie McCloskey averaged 20.0 points per game in LU's two contests. McCloskey buried seven three-pointers for 21 points against Memphis and hit five more from downtown against Texas-Pan American, finishing with 19 points in the win.
After shooting under 40 percent in five straight games, Loyola was on target in its last two games as it hit at a clip of 51.5 percent.
Sophomore guard Keisha Collins handed out 16 assists in the two games including nine dimes in the win over Texas-Pan American. Collins opened tournament play with a 15-point, six-rebound, seven-assist effort against Memphis.
Milwaukee
The Panthers improved to 4-6 on the year after they captured their first home win of the season against Cardinal Stritch 76-55 on Friday.
UWM outshot Cardinal Stritch 41.8 to 36.7 percent as four Panthers scored in double figures.
Junior center Traci Edwards led the way with 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Edwards also pulled down 12 rebounds to collect her League-best sixth double-double of the season.
UWM opens League play on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. as it travels to Wright State.
UIC
The Flames (4-7) remained undefeated at home with a 70-62 victory over Bucknell on Friday.
Sophomore Jessie Miller led the charge with 21 points and eight rebounds. Miller was 8-for-13 from the field and picked up five assists, two blocks and two steals in the win. The guard also drained three treys against the Bison.
Junior guard Meghan Hutchens was 4-for-7 from the field as she notched 13 points on the night, while sophomore guard Briana Hinkle totaled 11 points and six rebounds.
The team scored 35 points in the paint and the bench chipped in 17 points.
The Flames begin League play on Thursday as they travel to Youngstown State for a 5:15 p.m. tip off.
Valparaiso
The Crusaders (5-6) begin their inaugural Horizon League slate on Jan. 5 at 2:35 p.m. at home against Butler.
Valpo finished 2007 by capturing its fifth win in the last six games with a 76-57 victory over Saint Xavier at home on Dec. 22.
With the win at home, Valpo has won 10 straight at the ARC. Junior guard Agnieszka Kulaga tied a career-high with 26 points against SXU. Junior forward Aimee Litka also had career bests of 19 points and eight boards in the win.
Valpo finished the 2007 calendar year with a 20-10 record from January-December.
Wright State
The Raiders (3-8) return to action for the first time in nearly two weeks as they open their League schedule at home against Milwaukee on Thursday at 7:00 p.m..
WSU finished 2007 with a 71-70 win over Evansville on Dec. 21 at home.
WSU's game against UE featured 10 ties and 13 lead changes, the final lead change came in the closing seconds thanks to a buzzer-beating jumper by freshman guard Shey Peddy.
All five Wright State starters scored nine or more points, led by Peddy's 16 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Freshman guard LaShawna Thomas also scored 16 while senior forward Whitney Lewis had 15 along with eight rebounds and senior forward Sierra Crayton added 12.
Youngstown State
The Penguins (5-6) begin League play on Thursday at home against UIC. The game will tip off at 5:15 p.m.
YSU finished 1-1 to close out 2007. The Penguins dropped an 84-50 decision to Ohio State on Dec. 19, but rebounded on Dec. 21 against Akron as they claimed a 74-56 victory.
Senior forward Jessica Schloemp extended her consecutive games played streak to 84.
With a season-high nine assists against Akron, senior guard Lauren Branson moved into sixth place (377) on the YSU career assists list. She also needs just 23 more to become the sixth player in school history to tally 400 assists in a career.
Senior guard Heather Karner, who scored a season-high 24 points against Akron, has scored in double figures in eight of 11 games and has tallied at least 20 points twice this season.
YSU needs just two more victories to match last season's win total.
