Josh Rattray named Horizon League assistant director of communications

INDIANAPOLIS --- Josh Rattray, a former sports information assistant at Cleveland State University and graduate of Butler University, has been named assistant director of communications at the Horizon League, Commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Wednesday (Aug. 20).

Rattray (pronounced RAT-tray) joins the League office staff after serving the past year as a sports information intern at Michigan State University, where he was the primary contact for the baseball, men's and women's soccer, and swimming and diving programs. He also spearheaded the department's web audio initiative and was the media coordinator for the 2007 Big Ten Men's Soccer Championship, while assisting with gameday duties for football, ice hockey, and men's and women's basketball.

Prior to joining the Michigan State staff, Rattray spent a year as sports information assistant at Horizon League member Cleveland State, where he handled media relations for eight of the Vikings' 17 sports and coordinated media efforts for the 2007 Eastern Wrestling League Championships. He also called play-by-play for several games of the League's softball championship that year on the Horizon League Network (HLN).

In the spring of 2006, Rattray interned in the Horizon League's communications department while a student at Butler. He was the men's and women's golf contact and also assisted with media operations at the 2006 NCAA Men's Final Four, which was co-hosted by the Horizon League and Butler.

"We are pleased to have Josh join our communications staff as assistant director," said LeCrone. "His familiarity with the League and new media will help in our strategic communications efforts."

A native of Crown Point, Ind., Rattray earned a bachelor's degree in media arts from Butler in 2006 with minors in business administration and public relations. As an undergraduate, he was the play-by-play voice of the Bulldogs' women's basketball program on www.butlersports.com, served as a programming engineer for ESPN950 (now XL950) in Indianapolis, and was a writer and graphic designer for High School Sports Publications, Inc., in Crown Point.

Rattray will officially begin his new duties at the League office on Aug. 25.
