INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State University junior Kailey Klein has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 29-Jan. 4. The selection marks Klein's fifth career weekly honor from the League office and her second this season.
A native of Cherry, Ill., Klein averaged a Horizon League-best 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games last week. The guard made 17-of-32 (.531) from the field, 6-of-13 (.462) from three-point range and 9-of-13 (.692) from the free-throw line.
Cleveland State owns a 6-7 overall record after splitting a pair of games last week. The Vikings turned in a 75-48 win over the University at Buffalo on Monday before suffering a 55-46 setback to Butler University in the Horizon League opener for both schools on Saturday.
Klein has poured in 20-plus points in five of her last six games and now leads the conference in scoring (19.8 ppg). She also ranks fourth in free-throw percentage (.848) and ninth in rebounding (6.1 rpg).
Cleveland State continues its Horizon League slate with three games this week. The Vikings travel to Valparaiso University on Monday (8:05 p.m. ET) before hosting the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Thursday (5 p.m.) and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday (5 p.m.).
