INDIANAPOLIS -- Valparaiso University senior Launa Hochstetler has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 12-18. The selection marks Hochstetler's first career weekly honor from the League office.

A native of Berlin, Ohio, Hochstetler averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in two games last week. The guard made 16-of-28 (.571) from the field, 3-of-6 (.500) from three-point range and 7-of-8 (.875) from the free-throw line.

Valparaiso picked up a pair of Horizon League victories at the Athletics-Recreation Center last week. The Crusaders defeated the University of Illinois at Chicago (66-64) on Thursday and Loyola University Chicago (69-52) on Saturday.

Hochstetler tied her career high with 24 points in the win over UIC before adding 18 points and six assists in the victory over Loyola.

Hochstetler leads the Horizon League in assists per game (4.9) and free-throw percentage (.881) this season. She also ranks second in minutes played (34.2) and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3).

Valparaiso (9-7 overall, 4-2 Horizon League) has just one game this week. The Crusaders will face League-leading Butler University (11-6, 6-0) at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
