INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Illinois at Chicago sophomore Andy Leonard and Wright State University freshman Michael Schum have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of March 16-22.

A native of Palos Heights, Ill., Leonard picks up Batter of the Week accolades after going 11-for-23 (.478) with five doubles, six RBI and seven runs and no strikeouts in five games last week.

The infielder's week included a 7-for-14 performance with four doubles in a three-game weekend set against Cleveland State University.

Through 18 games in 2009, Leonard leads UIC in batting average (.370), hits (27), at-bats (73), doubles (9), total bases (39) and slugging percentage (.534).

UIC improved to 6-12 on the season with a 4-1 week. The Flames split a two-game, mid-week set against Purdue University and swept Cleveland State in their first Horizon League series of the campaign.

A native of Bright, Ind., Schum notches Pitcher of the Week honors after recording a win and two saves in three relief appearances last week. He allowed no walks and just two hits while striking out five over 4.1 innings.

The right-hander yielded only two baserunners during the week, and no one reached third base.

Schum owns a 3-4 record, two saves and a 3.38 ERA in 11 appearances this season. He has scattered 14 hits in 16.0 innings and allowed just three walks while fanning nine.

Wright State improved to 9-12 on the campaign with a 3-1 week. The Raiders defeated Miami University on Tuesday and took two of three from League-foe Youngstown State University over the weekend.

UIC returns to action on Tuesday (7:30 p.m. ET) with the beginning of a non-conference series at the University of Missouri. Wright State heads back to the diamond on Tuesday (5 p.m.) at the University of Georgia.
