INDIANAPOLIS -- Loyola senior Declan Murray (Strongsville, Ohio) and Youngstown State junior Ciara Jarrett have been named the Horizon League Indoor Track Runners of the Week.
Murray was also honored on Nov. 26, 2012. This is the first award of the season for Jarrett.
Running at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational, Murray collected a pair of runner-up finishes while setting school records in both events. In the 800m, Murray placed second out of 70 runners with a 1:48.04 time which ranks first in the Horizon League this season and fourth in the nation.
Murray also helped the Ramblers finish second out of 30 teams in the 4x400m relay with a 3:10.63 time that leads the Horizon League this season and ranks 16th nationally.
Loyola will split up this weekend, competing in the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich.; the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash,; and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
Jarrett put together strong performances in four events at the YSU National Invitational, including her second consecutive win in the 200m, beating out a field of 32 with her 24.71 finish.
She also posted a 7.67 time in the 60m dash to place second in a field of 26 and helped the 4x400m relay team set a new school record with a 3:48.88 finish. Off the track, Jarrett finished 12th out of 24 in the long jump with a 4.80m distance.
The Penguins return to action this weekend at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
